Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between King Ray (ranked 24772 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alister Scanlan (ranked 5775 p4p, 0 weight class). King Ray had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, King Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alister Scanlan!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ray fails with the takedown.
Ray really is a fat lump.

Scanlan looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Ray trying to keep a closed guard but Scanlan is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scanlan looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Scanlan is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ray manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Scanlan manages to get himself to full guard.


Ray stands and steps away. Scanlan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Scanlan takes the fight into the clinch.
Scanlan throws a knee to the head but misses.

Scanlan gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ray regains guard.
Scanlan preventing the sweep.
Ray striking off his back but it's not causing Scanlan any problems.
Scanlan postures up in Ray's guard and throws a big left but Ray blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scanlan won't allow Ray to sweep him here.
Ray avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Scanlan is one step ahead there.
Ray bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Scanlan's guard.

Ray drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ray jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ray postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Scanlan has control of Ray's left arm, preventing Ray from doing any damage.
Ray wanted to stand there but Scanlan had control of the position.

Ray decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Scanlan scores with a spinning back kick!

Scanlan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ray to the mat! Ray manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Scanlan trying to control but Ray is working from the bottom.

Ray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Scanlan is one step ahead there.
Ray keeping moving, preventing Scanlan from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ray keeping full guard, as Scanlan tries to pass.
Scanlan is in close to Ray's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ray lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Ray drops back, looking for a kneebar! Scanlan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Scanlan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Scanlan!

Ray wants to control but Scanlan postures up.

Scanlan tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ray's legs.
Ray throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Ray can't do much from the bottom here.
Ray misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Scanlan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Scanlan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Scanlan looks winded!
Ray is looking to reverse the position.
Ray tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Scanlan presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Ray tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
BOOM! Scanlan connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ray regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alister Scanlan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ray shoots in for a takedown but Scanlan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Scanlan drives through with a takedown into Ray's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Scanlan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ray is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Ray might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice uppercut lands for Ray. That snapped Scanlan's head back.

Scanlan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Scanlan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ray to his feet.

Scanlan closes the distance and clinches.

Ray tightens his grip and picks Scanlan up, before dumping him to the ground. Scanlan manages to land in guard.
Scanlan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Ray thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ray stays in close to Scanlan's body and controls the position.

Alister Scanlan has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ray stands up and waves to Scanlan to follow him.

Scanlan gets a takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ray moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Alister Scanlan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Scanlan swings for the body but Ray moves out of range.
A low kick from Scanlan is predictable there

and Ray counters with a takedown into side control.

Ray tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ray has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ray controls the position.
Scanlan gets back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ray is controlling the pace.

Scanlan is pressing down on Ray's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Well, if Ray is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ray lands a nice short elbow.
Scanlan is trying to maintain the position but Ray is very close to passing his half guard.
Ray trying to control from half guard but Scanlan is working away.

Ray looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ray is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Scanlan is just riding it out for now. Ray eventually gives up the hold.
Ray prevents Scanlan from standing back up.
Ray wants to stand up but Scanlan is controlling the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Scanlan manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Ray keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Scanlan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Scanlan thows a leg kick but Ray checks it

so Ray counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ray controlling from the top position.
Ray being controlled here momentarily.
King Ray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alister Scanlan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

King Ray showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Scanlan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
