The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rose has his takedown stuffed

and Carter holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Rose is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Carter is keeping busy.
A right handed body shot lands from Carter.
Carter has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rose is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Carter manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Carter holds on and takes a little breather.

Carter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rose can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Carter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rose gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rose as he avoids it easily.

Carter tries to pull guard but Rose forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Rose lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carter circles away quickly and effectively.

It looks like Merle Rose has been cut.
Rose could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rose gets control of Carter's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rose will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rose knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carter on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Rose has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
