Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Santiago Mondragon (ranked 3772 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khalid Al Saadoun (ranked 5914 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Santiago Mondragon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Khalid Al Saadoun!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Al Saadoun misses.
Mondragon misses with a wild combination.
Al Saadoun drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Mondragon defends it well.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mondragon.
Mondragon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mondragon shoots for a double leg takedown but Al Saadoun sprawls well. He's pushed Mondragon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Al Saadoun changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mondragon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Al Saadoun slows the pace down.
Mondragon tries to buck Al Saadoun off but Al Saadoun is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Al Saadoun tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Mondragon is looking to reverse the position.

Mondragon throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Al Saadoun throws a strike aimed at the side of Mondragon's head but Mondragon avoids it well.
Mondragon manages to get back to half guard.
Al Saadoun slips a nice elbow through Mondragon's hands, connecting with Mondragon's forehead.
Al Saadoun tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mondragon.
Mondragon wants to control but Al Saadoun is keeping busy.
Al Saadoun wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Mondragon uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Al Saadoun gets to his feet - Mondragon follows without any prompting.
Mondragon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santiago Mondragon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Al Saadoun looks to land a combination. Mondragon sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Santiago Mondragon has been cut.

and Al Saadoun moves into the clinch.

Mondragon jumps into guard, dragging Al Saadoun to the mat.
Mondragon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mondragon is standing up over Al Saadoun. Al Saadoun looks to escape but Mondragon dives into side control.

Al Saadoun looking for a sweep but Mondragon has passed into full mount! Oh no!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Al Saadoun tries to reverse the position but Mondragon maintains control.
Al Saadoun tries to lock up and control but Mondragon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Al Saadoun tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Al Saadoun is looking to improve his position but Mondragon isn't that keen on the idea.

Mondragon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Al Saadoun is looking to escape.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Santiago Mondragon will probably get the nod.

That's time! Mondragon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Al Saadoun fails to land the takedown.
Mondragon shoots in and drives through. Al Saadoun sprawls well.
Al Saadoun throws a nice looking combination but Mondragon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Al Saadoun has Mondragon up against the cage in a clinch.

Mondragon successfully pulls guard.
Mondragon keeping full guard, as Al Saadoun tries to pass.
Al Saadoun wants to stand and escape but instead Mondragon has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Al Saadoun seems keen to control Mondragon's posture.

Al Saadoun keeping moving, preventing Mondragon from controlling successfully.
Al Saadoun is pulling down on Mondragon's head to control his posture.
Al Saadoun really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mondragon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mondragon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Al Saadoun has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mondragon has managed to get both his arms back between Al Saadoun's legs - danger averted.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Al Saadoun looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Al Saadoun keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Al Saadoun is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Mondragon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Mondragon tries to pull guard but Al Saadoun forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Al Saadoun must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Al Saadoun throws a strike but Mondragon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That was a close second round but I would say that Santiago Mondragon will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Al Saadoun drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mondragon trying to keep a closed guard but Al Saadoun is proving a slippery customer.

Al Saadoun has gone for a leg lock! Mondragon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Al Saadoun's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mondragon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mondragon wants to get up but he can't break Al Saadoun's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Al Saadoun looking for a sweep. Not yet Al Saadoun, not yet.
Al Saadoun has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mondragon has passed into side control.
Mondragon postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Al Saadoun can't do much from the bottom here.

Mondragon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mondragon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Al Saadoun tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mondragon presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Mondragon throws some wild stikes that Al Saadoun manages to avoid easily.
Al Saadoun is trying to reverse the position but instead Mondragon has taken his back - oops!
Mondragon controlling well, preventing Al Saadoun from escaping the position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mondragon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
