PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Warren Alford (ranked 5998 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Kronen (ranked 25375 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Warren Alford has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Warren Alford seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Warren Alford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Erik Kronen!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alford fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kronen looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Alford defending well as Kronen loads up on a big left hand.
Kronen wants to clinch but Alford slips to the side
and Alford makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Kronen swinging wildly here.

Alford shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Alford showed some decent athleticism there.
Alford lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alford seems to be looking for submissions.
It looks like Alford is going to stand back up.

Alford changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kronen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Alford tries for a kimura but Kronen is defending well.

Alford shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kronen napping and manages to drive through into side control!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alford pushes Kronen off and scrambles back to his feet.
Alford fails with a takedown attempt.

Alford closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kronen quickly recovers to half guard.

Alford wants to work for an arm triangle but Kronen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Alford decides to stand up.
Kronen throws a sloppy head kick
and Alford connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Alford instigates a clinch.
Alford is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kronen to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warren Alford. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Alford pulls Kronen into guard.
Kronen is fighting to break Alford's control of his arms but Alford is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Kronen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alford, up you get!

Alford ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alford no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Kronen stops Alford from standing up.
Alford trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Kronen lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Alford manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alford is looking to take this one to the mat.
Alford has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kronen is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Alford tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kronen smiles and moves away.
Kronen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Alford is looking to counter with head kicks.
We've been informed that Kronen has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Kronen shoots in but no luck this time.
Alford feinted with a counter takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Warren Alford dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kronen fails with the takedown.
Alford tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Kronen manages to circle out of the way.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Alford blocks a head kick by Kronen.
Alford thinks about countering with a head kick.

Alford looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Warren Alford overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alford is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kronen sees it coming and defends easily.

Alford is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kronen has managed to free his arm - good work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alford decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Kronen gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kronen lands with a nice combination. Alford backs away looking to recover.

Alford tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kronen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kronen unleashes a big counter combination but Alford bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Alford changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kronen tries to avoid it but Alford manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kronen to the ground. Kronen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kronen throws a body kick that misses
and Alford counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Kronen lands with a slapping head kick.
Kronen throws a body kick that misses.
Kronen fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alford feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Kronen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Alford clinches.

Alford manages to pull guard.

Alford keeping moving, preventing Kronen from controlling successfully.
Kronen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kronen stands up from Alford's guard - Kronen perhaps looking for a knockout.
Kronen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Alford defends it nicely.
Alford misses with a takedown attempt
and Kronen counters with a nice uppercut.
Kronen leaves Alford with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Erik Kronen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Alford drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alford jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kronen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Alford stands up and waves to Kronen to follow him.
Kronen shoots in and drives through. Alford sprawls well.
Kronen throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

It looked like Alford wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Kronen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alford paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kronen lands with a good body shot.

Kronen scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Alford doesn't seem bothered though.

and Alford counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Erik Kronen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kronen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alford, pushing him back against the cage.
Alford tries to score a body lock takedown but Kronen shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Alford tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kronen smiles and moves away.
Kronen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alford manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Alford stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Alford wants it to stay on the feet.
Alford lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Alford shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kronen sprawls well. Kronen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alford gets slowly back to his feet.

Alford fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kronen sprawls well initially but Alford persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kronen pushes Alford off and gets back to his feet.

Alford pushes Kronen up against the cage in a clinch.
Alford gets through Kronen's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A shot in the inside from Alford.
Alford tries to break free but Kronen pushes him back against the cage.
Alford prevents a takedown attempt there.
Alford tries to pull guard but Kronen holds him up against the cage and eventually Alford drops back down to his feet.
Alford looking to throw knees to the head but Kronen is blocking nicely.

Erik Kronen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kronen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
