The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Somm darts in looking for a takedown but Scanlan gets double underhooks and turns Somm into the cage.
Scanlan appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Somm looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Somm misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Scanlan.
Scanlan is looking to counter with a body kick.
Scanlan leaves Somm with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Scanlan fires out a quick counter leg kick but Somm just manages to avoid it.
A telegraphed right hand from Somm misses the target.
An attempted straight right counter from Scanlan misses the target.
Somm gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Scanlan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Scanlan counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Somm is defended easily by Scanlan.
And Scanlan counters with a quick kick to the body but Somm blocks it.

and Scanlan makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Scanlan lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Somm seems to have recovered his senses.
Somm shoots in and drives through. Scanlan sprawls well.
Scanlan thinks about countering with a body kick.
Somm closes the distance looking to clinch
and Scanlan finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Somm misses with a takedown attempt - Scanlan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Scanlan throws a big counter combination but Somm scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Somm wants to clinch
and Scanlan counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Somm badly! Scanlan follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Somm out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Scanlan finished him against the cage.
