PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between William Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Martyn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kent comes to the cage accompanied by Jay-Z ft Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans- A Dream. The crowd seem to be enjoying Martyn's choice of entrance music: Live For The Moment. Thomas Martyn is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, William Kent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Martyn!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kent has a takedown stuffed.
Martyn shoots in looking for a takedown. Kent tries to sprawl out of it but Martyn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kent manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Martyn darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Martyn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kent doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Martyn.
Kent is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Martyn's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Martyn's back!
I would not like to be Martyn right now.

Martyn rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Martyn avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kent.
Martyn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Martyn is refusing to be controlled, as Kent sits in half guard.
Martyn manages to get to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kent wants to control from the top but Martyn keeps moving.
Martyn manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Kent tries to lock up and control but Martyn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Martyn throwing strikes but Kent recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Kent manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Martyn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Martyn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Martyn postures up.

Kent is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kent is breathing heavily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Martyn distracts Kent with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Martyn postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kent keeping moving, preventing Martyn from controlling successfully.
Martyn is looking to stand up but Kent won't let him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Martyn's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Martyn trying to control the position from guard on top but Kent is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Martyn dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Martyn scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martyn controlling the pace.
Martyn scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Martyn trying to control from half guard but Kent is working away.
Kent tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Martyn is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Kent has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kent wants to control but Martyn is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kent is not content to let Martyn control the position.
Martyn not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Martyn seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Martyn seems to be working for a kimura but Kent defends the submission attempt.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Martyn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kent shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kent was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Martyn is trying to reverse the position but instead Kent has taken his back - oops!

Martyn prevents Kent from getting a body triangle.
Kent has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Martyn.
Martyn trying to control the action but Kent just sinks the hooks in.

Kent is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Martyn has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Kent is trying to stick to Martyn's back but Martyn is turning into Kent. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kent's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Martyn.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martyn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Martyn passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Martyn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Martyn creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Martyn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kent, who protects the arm well.

Martyn advances to full mount.
Kent is bucking up trying to escape but Martyn cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Martyn scoring with strikes but Kent is staying in there.
Thomas Martyn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Martyn wants to control but instead Kent manages to regain half guard.

Martyn decides to return to a standing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Martyn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Kent's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


No joy there for Martyn, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kent shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Martyn counters with a nice kick to the body.
Martyn throws a head kick that Kent semi-blocks.

Martyn pushes Kent up against the cage in a clinch.

Martyn has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kent uses from the top position.
Martyn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kent!
Kent keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Martyn controlling the pace for now.

Kent is squirming around, avoiding Martyn's attempts to control the action.

Kent is in all sorts of trouble here.
Martyn looking to control but Kent is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Martyn is landing with some decent strikes but Kent is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Martyn tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Martyn postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kent looks a forlorn figure.

The referee warns Kent that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Martyn with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Martyn lands a heavy elbow.

Martyn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kent is surviving well by controlling Martyn's body position as best he can.
Kent is squirming around, avoiding Martyn's attempts to control the action.

Kent is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Martyn looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Martyn connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Kent is in a horrible position here. Martyn smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
William Kent has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Thomas Martyn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Martyn lands with some strikes.

Thomas Martyn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Martyn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
