PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arron Webster (ranked 25228 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Wilson (ranked 3777 p4p, 497 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Arron Webster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Larry Wilson!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Webster shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wilson defends it nicely.

Webster clinches up with Wilson and pushes him back against the cage.
Webster working hard to break the clinch.
Webster blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Webster has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wilson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Webster goes for a takedown in the clinch but Wilson prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arron Webster. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Webster is trying to pull guard but Wilson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wilson has picked Webster up - he's going for a ride! Wilson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Webster is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Webster is adopting a defensive guard.

Webster escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wilson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wilson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wilson trying to control but Webster is working from the bottom.
Wilson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Webster swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Webster wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Webster looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wilson is fending him off so far but Webster persists. Nope, Wilson circles away and we're back to standing.

Webster drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Webster really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Webster trying to control the action but Wilson is working from the bottom.

Webster decides to stand back up. Webster steps back and let's Wilson get back to his feet.

Wilson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Webster paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As Wilson looks to move away, Webster throws a big counter combo but Wilson just gets out of the way.

Webster closes the distance and clinches.
Webster is trying to drag Wilson to the mat but Wilson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Webster has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wilson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Webster is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Wilson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Wilson drags the fight down to the ground.
Wilson has a closed guard, preventing Webster from standing up.

Wilson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Webster doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Webster manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Webster decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wilson, up you get!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Larry Wilson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Webster walks into a straight right hand from Wilson.


It looks like Arron Webster has been cut.
Wilson throws a low kick but Webster moves out of range easily.
Webster fails with the takedown.

Webster closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Wilson quickly recovers to half guard.

Webster is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wilson is just riding it out for now. Webster eventually gives up the hold.
Webster tries to stand and escape but Wilson is controlling the position.

Webster gets to his feet. Wilson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Wilson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Webster.
Webster is looking to clinch but Wilson is avoiding it.

Wilson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Webster manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Wilson wants to pass the guard but Webster is keeping the position.

Webster is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wilson dives into side control.
Webster is looking for a sweep.

Webster sneaks out the side door and pushes Wilson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Wilson gets the takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wilson tries to advance position but instead Webster slips a leg back in to half guard.
Webster moves into full guard.
Arron Webster overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Webster not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Webster has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wilson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Webster is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wilson tries to get to full guard but Webster has control of the leg.

Wilson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Wilson is defending against the submission attempts here by Webster.
Wilson tries to roll over but Webster keeps him under control.

Webster postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Wilson to stand up.

Wilson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wilson lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Webster is pulling down on Wilson's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Arron Webster will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wilson lands with a nice combination. Webster backs away looking to recover.

Wilson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Wilson decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Webster tries to sprawl but Wilson drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Webster is controlling Wilson's position as best he can from this difficult position.
It looks like Wilson is going to stand back up.
Webster is doing well to control the position and prevent Wilson from advancing to side control.

Webster is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wilson scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wilson has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Webster works to full guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Webster will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Webster working for a triangle but Wilson defends it easily.
Webster pulls Wilson in close to his closed guard and prevents Wilson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Wilson trying to control the position from guard on top but Webster is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Webster is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
Larry Wilson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
