Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, DJ Kat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Jose Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kat misses with a wild combination.
Diaz swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Kat tries to score with a low kick but Diaz moves his leg out of the way.
Kat misses with a low kick.
Diaz tries to work over Kat's front leg with a kick but Kat checks it.
Diaz takes a jab right on the kisser.
Kat lands a jab.
Diaz throws a lazy uppercut
and Kat counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Diaz ducks under a wild hook from Kat.
Diaz wants to counter the offense by Kat and move into the clinch position.
Kat throws a hook to the side of Diaz's head but Diaz sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
It seemed like Diaz was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kat.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Diaz! But no joy.
DJ Kat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz looks to score with a jab to the body but Kat is just out of range.
Diaz drives through and clinches with Kat against the cage.
Kat misses with a body punch.
Diaz jumps guard and drags Kat to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Kat from controlling successfully.
Kat knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Diaz on the ground.
Diaz has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Island Safe Space. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Diaz looking for a triangle here. Kat is fighting it but it looks tight! Diaz pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Kat is tapping out - this one is all over!
