Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Gonzales (ranked 23830 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam Hoohuli (ranked 8683 p4p, 0 weight class). Liam Hoohuli has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Christopher Gonzales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Liam Hoohuli!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoohuli throws a right hand that Gonzales ducks under and follows up with a left that Gonzales also avoids with ease.

and Gonzales counters with a shoot takedown. Hoohuli fights it but they end up in guard.
Hoohuli is wriggling around but Gonzales manages to pass to half guard.

Hoohuli tries to kick Gonzales off in order to stand up. Gonzales Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Hoohuli is trying to buck Gonzales off.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoohuli wants to get back to his feet.
The referee asks Gonzales politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Gonzales prefers to stall for the moment though.

Gonzales seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hoohuli for as long as he can get away with.

Gonzales tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gonzales has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hoohuli pushes Gonzales away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gonzales gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gonzales is working Hoohuli over with some ground and pound from side control.
Hoohuli is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gonzales is controlling him well.
Hoohuli takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Hoohuli falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gonzales moves into the clinch.
Gonzales has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hoohuli after a bit of a struggle.

Hoohuli looks to land a combination but Gonzales avoids it well.
Hoohuli tries to clinch but Gonzales moves out of range.
Gonzales wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Christopher Gonzales overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hoohuli is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gonzales will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gonzales has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hoohuli throws a series of punches but Gonzales moves out of range.

Hoohuli looking to score a takedown here. Gonzales is defending well but Hoohuli drives through and ends up in Gonzales's guard.
Hoohuli wants to get up but he can't break Gonzales's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Gonzales wants to sweep here but Hoohuli controlling him for the moment.

Hoohuli wants to stand but Gonzales is controlling his posture from full guard.
Gonzales is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gonzales perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
More hug and hope from Gonzales.
Gonzales looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hoohuli with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Christopher Gonzales will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Gonzales tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Hoohuli feints and as Gonzales raises his hands in defense, Hoohuli changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Gonzales manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Gonzales is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hoohuli can do to turn this around?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hoohuli tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gonzales was well out of range. Poor timing from Hoohuli.
As Hoohuli tries to get set, Gonzales tries to push him back and clinch up but Hoohuli manages to avoid the attempt.
Hoohuli fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Gonzales makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gonzales working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hoohuli's head.

Hoohuli controls Gonzales momentarily but Gonzales frees himself.
Gonzales really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Christopher Gonzales.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gonzales, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
