PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ori Jokinen (ranked 2310 p4p, 222 weight class) and Henrique Ramos (ranked 1982 p4p, 206 weight class). Ramos is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sepultura - Nomad. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ori Jokinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henrique Ramos!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Ramos. Jokinen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jokinen quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Jokinen moves out of range as Ramos throws a body kick.
It looked like Jokinen was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Ramos.
Ramos connects with a leg kick. Jokinen looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Jokinen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ramos moves into range and connects with a jab.
Jokinen stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Ramos.
Jokinen goes for a double leg but Ramos avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ramos continues to drive forward.
Jokinen tries to move into range but Ramos moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ramos changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jokinen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ramos is looking to advance position but Jokinen won't allow it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ramos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jokinen looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Jokinen shoots for a double leg takedown but Ramos sprawls well. He's pushed Jokinen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jokinen takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Ramos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jokinen's guard.

Ramos sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jokinen's guard.

Jokinen bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Ramos wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Jokinen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ramos swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Henrique Ramos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ramos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
