Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Peoples Welkers (ranked 5733 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Van Damme (ranked 23953 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Damme has chosen Jeet Kune Do Sensei as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Damme motions for Welkers to come forward. Van Damme throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Crunch! Van Damme slams his shin into Welkers's torso.
Welkers fails to land with a series of punches.
A nice side step and Van Damme releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Van Damme gets through Welkers's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Welkers tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Van Damme just stands there and leans against the cage.
Van Damme gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

It looks like Peoples Welkers has been cut.
Welkers fails to pull guard.
Welkers is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Van Damme to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peoples Welkers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Welkers takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Van Damme fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Welkers looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Van Damme connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Welkers gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Peoples Welkers's cut is getting worse.
Chuck Van Damme is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Welkers on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Van Damme tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Van Damme feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Welkers's calf.
Welkers on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Van Damme. Van Damme obviously looking to wear him down.
Van Damme misses with a head kick.
As Van Damme tries to get set, Welkers tries to push him back and clinch up but Van Damme manages to avoid the attempt.
Horrible takedown attempt by Welkers or perhaps it was just good defense by Van Damme, which made it look bad.
Van Damme throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Welkers's head.
A thudding body kick lands there by Van Damme!

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Van Damme.

Welkers could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Van Damme scores a nice knee to the body.

Van Damme breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Van Damme cracks a nice hook into Welkers's ribs.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Van Damme.

Van Damme lands with a nice body punch.

Van Damme clinches up with Welkers and pushes him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Van Damme pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Welkers takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Van Damme throws a shot to the body.

Van Damme takes the fight into the clinch.
Van Damme scores with a nice hook to the head.
Knees to the body from Van Damme.
Van Damme lands an elbow inside.

Van Damme manages to break the clinch.
Welkers takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Welkers stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Van Damme.
Crunch! Van Damme slams his shin into Welkers's torso.
Van Damme throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Van Damme dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Peoples Welkers's cut.

Peoples Welkers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Welkers takes a kick to the side of the head.
Welkers tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Welkers takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Welkers is rocked!
A good leg kick by Van Damme.
Oh Welkers is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Van Damme closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Welkers! Van Damme dives in looking to finish! Welkers is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
