Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nathaniel Mann (ranked 25294 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideo Ishii (ranked 5674 p4p, 0 weight class). Hideo Ishii has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Nathaniel Mann's chin.

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ishii gets the takedown into side control.
Mann can't do much from the bottom here.
Ishii looks up at the clock and then as Mann takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ishii smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Ishii remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
It looks like Ishii might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ishii's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mann prevents Ishii from improving position.

Mann throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Mann is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ishii connects with a decent elbow.
Mann really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Ishii is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mann knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mann knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ishii on the ground.

Mann is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Ishii is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Ishii is looking to take this one to the mat.

Ishii gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Mann is looking for a triangle but Ishii pushes his legs off easily.
Ishii stays in close to Mann's body and controls the position.

Mann has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ishii can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mann can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ishii controls the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mann is looking to get back to his feet here but Ishii is keeping cool and he's managed to take Mann's back.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Ishii fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mann to the ground. Ishii is now in Mann's guard.

Ishii has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mann has his foot on Ishii's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ishii works his way back into a safe position though.

Mann sneaks out the side door and pushes Ishii away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ishii takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mann is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ishii scores with a couple of nice shots.

Ishii looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mann controls Ishii momentarily but Ishii frees himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

and Mann counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ishii thinking.

Mann is trying to control Ishii's posture but Ishii avoids it.
Nathaniel Mann has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hideo Ishii is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mann seems a little lost for a moment, as Ishii dominates the positioning.
