Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shin Katama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Theodoro Vicente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shin Katama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Theodoro Vicente!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vicente showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Katama.
Katama lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Vicente backs up against the cage.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Katama.
Katama misses with a two punch combination.
Nice takedown defense from Katama. No joy for Vicente on that attempt.

Katama swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Vicente tries to close the distance and clinch up but Katama swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vicente will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

It looks like Theodoro Vicente has been cut.
Katama lands a head kick that stumbles Vicente and the fighters go to the mat.

Vicente is still in real trouble! Can Katama finish him?
Vicente is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vicente seems to have recovered his senses.

Katama is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Vicente escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Katama gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vicente has his hands on Katama's head, controlling the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Katama wants to pass the guard but Vicente is keeping the position.

Katama gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Vicente shoots in looking for a takedown. Katama tries to sprawl out of it but Vicente keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Katama manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shin Katama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Theodoro Vicente.

Katama has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vicente is working away from the top position though.

Katama is refusing to be controlled, as Vicente sits in half guard.

Vicente is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Katama defends it well.
Vicente prevents Katama from standing back up.
Katama keeps control of the position for the meantime.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Vicente takes a head kick and keeps coming.
A head kick from Katama lands but Vicente takes it in his stride.

Vicente shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Vicente was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Katama is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Katama is desperately trying to improve his position but Vicente has a good base and remains in mount.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vicente is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Katama has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Katama!
Katama has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Vicente looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Katama passes into half guard.

Vicente has hold of Katama's hands but Katama slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Katama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vicente keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Katama looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vicente fails with the takedown.
Katama throws a right hand that Vicente ducks under and follows up with a left that Vicente also avoids with ease.
Katama tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Theodoro Vicente seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vicente shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Katama as he avoids it easily.
Katama throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Katama throws a series of punches but Vicente moves out of range.
Katama scores with a leg kick.
Vicente avoids the head kick by Katama.
Katama misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vicente will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Katama looks to land a combination but Vicente avoids it well.
Vicente shoots in and drives through. Katama sprawls well.
Katama stalks Vicente and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Vicente's face. Vicente staggers backwards, shaken.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Vicente closes the distance and clinches up with Katama, looking for a takedown. Vicente pushes Katama against the cage but Katama circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Vicente throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Katama's waist but Katama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vicente off to one side.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Katama throws a right and a left that Vicente avoids nicely.

Katama throws a series of punches but Vicente moves out of range.
Vicente changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Katama tries to avoid it but Vicente manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Katama to the ground. Katama escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Vicente crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Katama - the referee stops the clock and Vicente gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Katama. Vicente manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Vicente throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Katama's waist but Katama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vicente off to one side.
Vicente shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Katama as he jumps to the side.
Katama throws a head kick that misses.

Katama sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Vicente is in close to Katama's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Vicente stops Katama from standing up.
Vicente slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Katama counters with a three punch combo that has Vicente backing up. Vicente nods at Katama to acknowledge the strikes.
Shin Katama is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

and Katama counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shin Katama showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Katama, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
