The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Mason.

It looks like Angel Gifford has been cut.
Mason misses with the combination.
Gifford shoots for a double leg takedown but Mason sprawls well. He's pushed Gifford's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mason feints a jab promting Gifford to slip. Mason then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gifford slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mason lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Mason avoids the head kick by Gifford.
Gifford stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mason.
Gifford shoots for a double leg takedown but Mason sprawls well. He's pushed Gifford's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mason wants to counter the offense by Gifford and move into the clinch position.
Gifford dives in for a single leg takedown but Mason sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Angel Gifford. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gifford is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mason is pawing at Gifford, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Gifford's nose. Gifford is badly hurt! Mason pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Gifford tries desperately to hold on but Mason is relentless in his assault! As Gifford receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Mason away and this one is in the books!
