Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elmore James (ranked 900 p4p, 105 weight class) and Joan Vila (ranked 561 p4p, 66 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James avoids a punch combination nicely.
James throws out a loose jab but Vila uses good head movement to avoid it.

James connects with a single shot there.
James throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vila sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Vila looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Vila has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
James throws a jab but it's blocked by Vila.
James slips a straight right by Vila.
Vila thuds his right hand into James's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

James tries to work over Vila's front leg with a kick but Vila checks it.
James throws a right and a left that both miss.
James looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
James feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Vila's calf.
Vila just misses with a punch to the body.
It looked like James wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
The fighters circle momentarily. James darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Vilas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Vila tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but James was well out of range. Poor timing from Vila.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Vila gets control of James's arms and successfully pulls guard. Vila will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

James wants to get up but he can't break Vila's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Vila is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vila throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Vila bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A punch lands to the side of Vila 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Vila loads up on a big right hand but James slips the punch.
James throws a nice looking combination but Vila bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A little jabbing left from Vila on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

James is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vila swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vila avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
James doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Vila with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling James to score with a decent uppercut.

A decent looking cross lands there for James.

Vila fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it.
James throws a right and a left that both miss.
Vila uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by James.
Vila now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Nice defenses there by James.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
