Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Efren Cotton (ranked 5810 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Kane (ranked 7921 p4p, 0 weight class). Efren Cotton has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Efren Cotton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jim Kane!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kane moves into range and clinches up with Cotton.
Come on Cotton - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Cotton goes for a takedown attempt but Kane pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cotton.

Kane rushes Cotton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cotton tries to score a body lock takedown but Kane shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Efren Cotton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kane will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Cotton up against the cage.
Cotton tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kane drags the fight down to the ground.
Kane preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kane utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kane has his hands on Cotton's head, controlling the position.
Cotton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kane is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Cotton is trying to trip Kane. He has hold of a leg but Kane is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Cotton persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Kane wriggles free and stands up.
Cotton misses with a hook. Kane ducked under it nicely.
Kane doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Kane shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kane was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cotton is letting Kane control him for a moment.
Cotton is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kane slows the pace down in half guard.
Cotton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cotton wants to control but Kane passes into side.

Kane tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kane has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cotton gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Kane not doing much here.
Cotton wants to improve his position but Kane is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kane looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Cotton tries to kick Kane off in order to stand up. Kane Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Cotton is trying to control Kane's posture but Kane avoids it.

Kane decides to stand back up. Kane steps back and let's Cotton get back to his feet.

Kane clinches.
Cotton is working for takedown but Kane is calmly controlling the position for now.
Cotton wants to take the fight to the mat but Kane manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Kane gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cotton.

Kane blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Cotton goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kane prevents it.
Cotton is breathing heavily.
Cotton is looking for a takedown.
Cotton drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kane pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kane lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Efren Cotton has been cut.

Kane looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cotton!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kane decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cotton to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Kane dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Efren Cotton's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kane shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kane showed some decent athleticism there.

Cotton has one foot on Kane's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Kane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kane shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cotton's guard.
Cotton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kane throws a big right hand that misses.
Cotton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kane tries to free his leg and advance position but Cotton is retaining full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kane controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Cotton is working an open guard so Kane takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kane misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cotton with a poor takedown

and Kane moves into the clinch.
Kane makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Cotton fails to pull guard.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Kane just misses with a elbow thrown towards Cotton's brow.
Kane prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Efren Cotton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kane wants the takedown. Cotton is fighting it off but Kane persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cotton's guard against the cage.

Kane throws a big elbow that misses.

Kane drops back looking for a leg! Cotton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cotton manages to kick Kane off! Kane jumps back into Cotton's guard.

Kane tries to advance to mount but can't.
Cotton being controlled for a moment.
Cotton manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kane's best efforts.
Kane looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Kane decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Kane tries a head kick but it misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cotton moves out of range of the body kick.

Kane shoots in and gets a takedown into Cotton's guard.
Cotton is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Kane dives into side control.

The strikes coming from Kane are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kane throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Cotton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kane wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Cotton manages to get back to half guard.
Kane is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Kane stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Cotton to get to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Kane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Kane slaps away a takedown attempt from Cotton, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Kane rushes Cotton and presses him up against the cage.
Cotton lands with a light punch inside.
Cotton tries for a takedown. No joy.
Kane stops a takedown attempt from Cotton.

Kane wants to pass the guard but Cotton is keeping the position.

Kane gets to his feet. Cotton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Cotton closes the distance but Kane moves to the side
and Kane makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Good work by Cotton as he checks the leg kick.
Kane throws a head kick that misses.

Kane takes the fight into the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Cotton.

Kane is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Cotton has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kane after a bit of a struggle.
Jim Kane seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Kane tries to circle away but Cotton has him pinned against the cage.
Kane is trying to break the clinch but Cotton is controlling him.

Kane pulls guard effortlessly.

Kane manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Kane is trying to trip Cotton. He has hold of a leg but Cotton is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kane persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kane not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Cotton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kane has passed into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A lull in the action here.
Jim Kane has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cotton defending against the ground and pound.
Kane gets to mount! Cotton was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Kane is landing with some decent strikes but Cotton is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Kane controlling the pace for now.
Kane looking to ground and pound but Cotton is blocking nicely.
Kane unloads with some shots from mount but Cotton bucks and avoids them well.
Kane punching from mount but Cotton doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Kane working for a submission but Cotton is keeping him at bay.

Let's hope that Kane has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jim Kane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
