The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Granite rushes Collis and presses him up against the cage.
Collis looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Granite decides to pull guard.
Granite pulls Collis in to control the position.
Granite is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Granite working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Still in half guard, Granite seems content to control.
Granite seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Granite wants to pass to mount but Collis is defending the position.
Granite takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Granite is taking a breather. Collis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Collis's coaches at Cozad MMA Sydney have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Let's hope that Granite has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Granite looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Granite.

Granite seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Granite slips a nice elbow through Collis's hands, connecting with Collis's forehead.

Granite is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Granite is looking to advance position but Collis won't allow it.

It looks like Granite might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Granite connects with a nice short shot to Collis's temple.
