PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Davon Jonhson (ranked 25287 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Embree (ranked 4915 p4p, 0 weight class). Matthew Embree told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jonhson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Embree appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Jonhson shoots in for a double leg but Embree sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Embree looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Jonhson tries to close the distance and clinch but Embree swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Embree wants to take the fight to the mat but Jonhson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Embree shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jonhson as he jumps to the side.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Despite the aggression on Embree's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Embree changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jonhson tries to avoid it but Embree manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jonhson to the ground. Jonhson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Embree throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jonhson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Embree is in Jonhson's guard.

Jonhson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Embree gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Embree stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jonhson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Embree throws an elbow but Jonhson slips to the side and avoids it well.
Jonhson dodges the ground and pound from Embree.
Jonhson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Embree wants to control but Jonhson is keeping him busy.

Matthew Embree is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Embree is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Davon Jonhson.
I think Embree has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
