PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeramy Rush (ranked 8421 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Cox (ranked 5686 p4p, 543 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeramy Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Cox!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cox closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Rush has one foot on Cox's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Cox drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rush pulls Cox in close to prevent any damage.

Rush manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rush misses with a takedown
and Cox counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Cox stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cox wants it to stay on the feet.

Cox bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rush dodges the ground and pound from Cox.
You can see the frustration on Rush's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rush is trying to get back to half guard.
Cox wants to control but Rush is keeping him busy.

Rush is holding Cox down, trying to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rush manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cox's best efforts.
Cox lands with a punch from half guard.
Rush gets back to full guard.
Cox trying to control but Rush is working from the bottom.
Cox with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Cox cracks Rush with a solid left hand.
Rush wants to stand and escape but Cox is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rush is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cox is aware though and is defending well.
Cox works over Rush with some ground and pound from guard.
Cox distracts Rush with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cox's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Cox has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cox is standing up over Rush. Rush looks to escape but Cox dives into side control.
Rush is trying to improve his position.
Rush is breathing heavily.
Rush struggling a bit here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cox landing a few strikes.
Cox is chipping away with strikes.
Rush is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Rush's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Cox cracks Rush with a big right hand but Rush just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Rush is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cox connects with a decent elbow.
Rush is trying to get back to his feet.
Rush takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Cox scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Rush to see if he's OK.
Rush takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Rush tries to bench press Cox off him but Cox keeps the position.
Cox wants to control but Rush is keeping him busy.
Rush pushes Cox away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cox gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Rush regains half guard.
Rush is positioning himself well to prevent Cox advancing to mount.
Cox is trying to control the action in half guard but Rush is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rush moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Rush controlling the position.
Rush's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Further stalling from Rush.
Cox landing some decent shots from guard.
Rush is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Cox dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Rush looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cox tries to counter by closing the distance.
Cox throws a head kick that misses.
It looked like Rush was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Rush shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cox as he avoids it easily.

Cox shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rush's guard.

Rush pushes Cox off and gets back to his feet.
Rush fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And Cox responds with a good body kick, but Rush manages to step out the way in time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rush shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeramy Rush. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rush gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cox wants to control but Rush is keeping busy.

Cox is looking to escape.
Rush is thwarting Cox's attempts to control the position.
Cox is trying to stand up here but Rush is controlling him well.

Cox is defending against the submission attempts here by Rush.

Rush is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cox doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rush.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cox is pressing down on Rush's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cox is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rush kicks Cox off and gets back to his feet.
Rush looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cox is fending him off so far but Rush persists. Nope, Cox circles away and we're back to standing.

and Rush counters by moving into the clinch.

Rush pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cox defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rush.
Rush fails to land the takedown.

Cox shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Rush has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Cox has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rush is trying to pull guard but Cox turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Rush's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Cox shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cox was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Rush explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Rush tries for a takedown but Cox sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rush moves in looking to clinch but Cox pushes him off.
Rush fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Cox tries to keep at a distance but Rush has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cox lands with a short shot to the head.
Rush is trying to pull guard but Cox has him pressed against the cage.
Cox is trying to push Rush away but Rush has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rush is trying to drag Cox to the mat but Cox just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Rush breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rush enables Cox to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rush manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cox loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Cox postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rush is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cox pulls his head out easily.
Cox tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rush controls his leg.
Cox is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Rush tries to roll over but Cox keeps him under control.
Rush holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cox connects with a nice short shot to Rush's temple.

Cox throwing shots but Rush is blocking nicely.
Jeramy Rush overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rush is holding on to half guard well.
Rush is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cox scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rush gets full guard.
Rush keeping moving, preventing Cox from controlling successfully.

Cox drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cox jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rush has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Rush knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cox on the ground.

Rush has control of Cox's left arm, preventing Cox from doing any damage.

Rush pulls Cox in to control the position.
Cox scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Cox throwing strikes but missing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cox stuffs the takedown attempt from Rush. Rush gets slowly back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rush gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rush is wriggling around but Cox manages to pass to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeramy Rush showed his dominance in that final round.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
