PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Bizzle (ranked 8601 p4p, 467 weight class) and Rogelio Velasquez (ranked 8682 p4p, 468 weight class). Rogelio Velasquez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bubba Bizzle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rogelio Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bizzle tries for a takedown but Velasquez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Bizzle fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Velasquez, pushing him back against the cage.

Bizzle has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Velasquez uses from the top position.
Bizzle wants to sweep here but Velasquez controlling him for the moment.
Velasquez trying to control but Bizzle is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bizzle is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Velasquez defends well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Velasquez lands a nice shot that snaps Bizzle's head back.

Bizzle on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Bizzle moves into the clinch.
Bizzle will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Velasquez up against the cage.

Bizzle closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bizzle wants to pass the guard but Velasquez is defending well.
Velasquez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bizzle's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Bizzle stands and throws Velasquez's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Velasquez is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Bizzle looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bizzle swings around for an armbar but Velasquez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bizzle's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bubba Bizzle will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Bizzle bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Bubba Bizzle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Velasquez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bizzle haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Bizzle is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Velasquez is controlling him.
Velasquez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Velasquez wants to pass the guard but Bizzle is keeping the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bizzle is staying active underneath Velasquez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bizzle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

I would just about give that final round to Rogelio Velasquez.
