PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Khalid Al Saadoun (ranked 4710 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masaya Kubo (ranked 2627 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Khalid Al Saadoun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Masaya Kubo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kubo with a poor takedown

and Al Saadoun counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Al Saadoun jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kubo walks away with a smile on his face. Al Saadoun gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kubo fails with a takedown attempt.
Al Saadoun swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Kubo gets tackled into the cage by Al Saadoun. Al Saadoun maintains the clinch.
Kubo stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Kubo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Al Saadoun pulls his leg out and moves away.
Khalid Al Saadoun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Masaya Kubo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Al Saadoun is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kubo's half guard.
Still in half guard, Al Saadoun seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Al Saadoun fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kubo, pushing him back against the cage.
Al Saadoun is defending well against a takedown attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. Kubo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Al Saadoun throws a big right hand that misses.
Kubo wants to stand up but Al Saadoun is controlling him.
Al Saadoun with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Al Saadoun would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kubo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Al Saadoun manages to get himself to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Khalid Al Saadoun dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kubo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Al Saadoun's waist but Al Saadoun gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kubo off to one side.
Al Saadoun changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Al Saadoun is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kubo can do to turn this around?
Kubo thows a body kick. Al Saadoun tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Al Saadoun changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kubo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Al Saadoun wants to stand but Kubo is controlling his arm.
Kubo tries to buck Al Saadoun off but Al Saadoun is having none of it.
Kubo gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Kubo gets back to full guard.

Kubo is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Al Saadoun rolls with it to try and escape but Kubo cranks on the arm and Al Saadoun is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
