PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Otieno (ranked 6985 p4p, 521 weight class) and Jake Frankowski (ranked 3851 p4p, 362 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Frankowski's choice of entrance music: Pieśń Aniołów. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Otieno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jake Frankowski!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Frankowski fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Otieno, pushing him back against the cage.
A hook to the body from Otieno.

Frankowski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Otieno keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Frankowski.
Frankowski misses with a looping left.
Frankowski misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Otieno.
Otieno bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jake Frankowski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Frankowski pushes Otieno up against the cage in a clinch.
Otieno prevents Frankowski from breaking the clinch.

Frankowski's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A jab from Frankowski does it's job there.
Otieno uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Frankowski.
Frankowski gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Frankowski connects with a single shot there.
Frankowski misses with a left hand
and Otieno counters with a straight right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Frankowski looks to throw the jab but Otieno is out of range.
Frankowski throws the left hand but Otieno avoids the punch easily.
Otieno avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A little feinted left hand from Otieno on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Frankowski drops his hands momentarily and Otieno takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Otieno tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Frankowski paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A big right from Otieno misses.
Frankowski misses with a wild body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Otieno cracks Frankowski with an open hand slap.
Otieno blocks a jab.
Otieno scores with a nice right hand.
Otieno catches Frankowski with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Frankowski lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Frankowski misses with a left hand
and Otieno makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Frankowski throws a jab but it's blocked by Otieno.
Frankowski keeps the fight on the outside.
Jake Frankowski is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Otieno closes the distance and pushes Frankowski back into the cage.
Otieno works on Frankowski's body with a couple of short punches.
Frankowski can't break the clinch.
Otieno misses with a hook to the ribs.
Otieno throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Otieno keeps control of Frankowski as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Otieno looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Otieno manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Otieno working for a triangle but Frankowski defends it easily.

Otieno has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Frankowski can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frankowski wanted to stand there but Otieno had control of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Otieno had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Frankowski defends it easily.
Frankowski has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Otieno is proving hard to escape from.
Frankowski must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Otieno is looking to cinch up a triangle. Frankowski throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Otieno's body to avoid the submission. Otieno has instead reached around Frankowski's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Otieno arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). David Otieno!
