PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Cranston (ranked 7872 p4p, 621 weight class) and Shaka Johnson (ranked 5093 p4p, 499 weight class). Johnson has chosen Mandoza - Nkalakatha as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Shaka Johnson is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bryan Cranston !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shaka Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Richard Clark and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cranston manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Johnson won't allow Cranston to sweep him here.
Cranston wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Johnson connects with a couple of short punches.

Johnson stands up from Cranston 's guard - Johnson perhaps looking for a knockout.
Johnson's coach down at Rabid Reindeer Training was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Johnson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Johnson darts in looking for a takedown but Cranston gets double underhooks and turns Johnson into the cage.
Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cranston avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cranston 's waist but Cranston gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.
Bryan Cranston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shaka Johnson.

Johnson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cranston has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnson is working away from the top position though.
Cranston on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cranston tries to get out of the position.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cranston as he avoids it easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Johnson has a takedown stuffed.

Cranston tries to keep at a distance but Johnson has taken the fight into the clinch.

Johnson manages to pull guard.
Cranston controlling from the top position.
Cranston keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Johnson's head.
Cranston knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.

Cranston tries to stand but Johnson is controlling from the bottom.
Cranston makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Cranston is looking to advance position but Johnson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Johnson wants to control the pace but Cranston is squirming around nicely.
You get the feeling that Cranston really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Johnson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cranston lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Johnson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Johnson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cranston looking to score a takedown here. Johnson is defending well but Cranston drives through and ends up in Johnson's guard.

Cranston not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Cranston drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Johnson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cranston has Johnson in his guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cranston can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.

Johnson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Johnson enables Cranston to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Johnson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Johnson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Cranston presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cranston 's guard.

Shaka Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Johnson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Cranston 's efforts to push away.

Shaka Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cranston leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Shaka Johnson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
