The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthew throws a leg kick which misses Silva's front leg but catches the back leg as Silva tries to avoid it.
Silva tries to clinch there but Matthew circles away.
Matthew connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Matthew lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Silva has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Silva and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Silva appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Matthew circles away from the clinch attempt.
Matthew buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Fred Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Matthew. No joy for Silva on that attempt.
Matthew appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Matthew punishes Silva's body with a nice straight punch.
Silva looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Matthew is fending him off so far but Silva persists. Nope, Matthew circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd cheers as Matthew lands an impressive looking overhand right. Silva doesn't seem phased though.

Matthew really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Let's hope that Matthew has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Silva cracks Matthew with a big elbow.
Silva tries for a kimura but Matthew is defending well.

Silva lands a nice forearm strike.

Silva has hold of Matthew's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Matthew tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Silva cranks the arm and Matthew screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Matthew, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Fred Silva!
