PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connie Parks (ranked 24328 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Pickren (ranked 3704 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Connie Parks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Adam Pickren!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pickren looks for a takedown but Parks sprawls well.
Parks fails with a takedown attempt.

Pickren closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Parks did well to prevent Pickren getting side control.
Pickren seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Pickren's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Parks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pickren trying to mount his opponent but Parks defends it.
Pickren content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Parks manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Pickren keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Parks pulls guard effortlessly.
Parks keeping moving, preventing Pickren from controlling successfully.
Pickren not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Pickren throws a big right hand that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pickren trying to control but Parks is working from the bottom.
Parks being controlled here, momentarily.
Parks is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pickren's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pickren sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Parks's guard.

Pickren escapes and gets back to his feet.

Pickren forces Parks back against the cage and clinches.
Parks throws an elbow but it misses.

Parks decides to pull guard.
Pickren is looking to work some ground and pound but Parks has wrist control.
Pickren wants to control from the top but Parks keeps moving.
Pickren passes Parks's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Pickren is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Parks is trying to maintain the position but Pickren is very close to passing his half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pickren takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pickren wants to lay and pray for a moment but Parks keeps working.

Pickren stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pickren moves into the clinch successfully.

Pickren ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pickren no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Pickren kicks Parks off and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Pickren dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Pickren shoots in looking for a takedown but Parks manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pickren's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Parks is looking for a counter combo.
Pickren throws out a powerful jab.


It looks like Connie Parks has been cut.
Pickren throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Pickren pushes Parks up against the cage in a clinch.
Pickren tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Parks just stands there and leans against the cage.

Pickren manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Pickren scrambles and gets back to his feet.
No luck for Parks with that takedown attempt.

Pickren forces Parks back against the cage and clinches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Parks is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Pickren to keep the fight standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pickren gets control of Parks's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pickren will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Parks postures up.
Parks trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pickren's guard.

Pickren working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Parks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Parks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Pickren holds on and takes a little breather.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pickren is on top in guard.

Pickren is standing up over Parks. Parks looks to escape but Pickren dives into side control.

Pickren wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Parks, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Parks is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Pickren tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Pickren has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pickren looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pickren is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Parks is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pickren thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Pickren creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Pickren showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Connie Parks's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Parks takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Parks throws a right and a left that Pickren avoids nicely.
Pickren wants to clinch
and Parks counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Parks misses with a two punch combination.

Pickren drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pickren trying to control the action but Parks is working from the bottom.

Pickren thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Parks is trying to improve his position.
Parks is trying to control Pickren's posture but Pickren avoids it.
Pickren working the ground and pound.
Parks is letting Pickren control him for a moment.
Adam Pickren has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pickren lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pickren just content to control the position.
Pickren lands a nice forearm strike.

Pickren stands up.
Pickren wants to clinch.

Pickren has closed the distance and engaged Parks in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Parks with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Pickren wants the takedown. Parks is fighting it off but Pickren persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Parks's guard against the cage.
Pickren sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Pickren advances position into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Parks gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Pickren with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Pickren looking to control and managing it successfully.
Pickren lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Pickren content just to control the position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Parks tries to lock up and control but Pickren gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Adam Pickren comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pickren has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
