Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Olve Eikemo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Olve Eikemo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Cook!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cook shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Cook content just to control the position here.
Cook avoids the attempt from Eikemo to control.
Eikemo is squirming around, avoiding Cook's attempts to control the action.
Cook tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Eikemo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eikemo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cook controlling his opponent.
Eikemo is squirming around, avoiding Cook's attempts to control the action.

Despite being in the dominant position, James Cook just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cook has managed to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Eikemo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cook blocks it with crossed arms.
Eikemo using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cook has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Eikemo takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like Olve Eikemo has been cut.
Cook lands a knee to the body.
Eikemo misses with a punch to the body.

Cook manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Eikemo pushes down on Cook's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Cook is looking to control Eikemo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cook avoid being mounted?
Cook is looking for a sweep. Eikemo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cook can do anything to dispel that myth.
Eikemo trying to control from half guard but Cook is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cook kicks Eikemo off and gets back to his feet.
Eikemo closes the distance but Cook moves to the side

and Cook moves into the clinch.
Cook dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Cook crunches a lovely knee into Eikemo's ribcage.
Cook slowing the pace effectively.

Cook escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Eikemo wants to clinch but Cook slips to the side

and Cook counters with a takedown into side control.
Cook is working Eikemo over with some ground and pound from side control.
Cook in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Cook tries to move into full mount but can't pass Eikemo's legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cook is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Eikemo's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cook tries to advance to mount but Eikemo denies him.
Cook really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Eikemo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cook tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Cook controls the position.
Cook wants to stand but Eikemo is controlling his arm.
Eikemo is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Cook dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Olve Eikemo's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Eikemo wants to clinch

and Cook counters by moving into the clinch.
Eikemo is trying to stall.
Cook is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Cook lands a nice knee to the body.

Cook gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Eikemo regains guard.
Eikemo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cook must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Eikemo is really struggling to control Cook but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Cook wants to get up but he can't break Eikemo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cook slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Eikemo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cook wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Eikemo's closed guard. He's half up but Eikemo has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Eikemo pivots and extends the arm, Cook falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Eikemo! Well done that man!
