The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlson shoots in for a takedown but Smirnov shows good takedown defense.
Carlson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Smirnov lands a jab-cross combination.

It looks like Ike Carlson has been cut.
Smirnov stuffs the takedown attempt from Carlson. Carlson gets slowly back to his feet.

Smirnov moves into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smirnov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Smirnov manages to end up in side control.

Smirnov is trying to get an arm triangle but Carlson is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smirnov looks up at the clock and then as Carlson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Smirnov smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smirnov lands a strong strike to the head of Carlson. That's dazed him! Smirnov looking to finish here. Carlson is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Smirnov lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
