PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wilburn Snyder (ranked 8245 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corbin Stewart (ranked 4879 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Corbin Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Snyder checks a leg kick.
It looked like Snyder was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Stewart.
Stewart throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Snyder rushes Stewart and presses him up against the cage.

Stewart escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Snyder has managed to clinch.

Snyder shoots in for a takedown but Stewart shows good takedown defense.
Stewart throws a jab when Snyder was well out of range.

Stewart explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Stewart darts in and clinches Snyder up against the cage.

and Snyder makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Stewart tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Snyder has closed the distance and engaged Stewart in a clinch.

Snyder's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Snyder moves into range and clinches up with Stewart.

Stewart gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Stewart throws a strike but Snyder rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Snyder wants to control from the top but Stewart keeps moving.
Snyder throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Snyder decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Stewart, up you get!
Stewart fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Snyder manages to avoid it.
Corbin Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Snyder moves out of range of the leg kick from Stewart.

Snyder forces Stewart back against the cage and clinches.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Stewart stops a takedown attempt from Snyder.
Stewart works on Snyder's body with a couple of short punches.
Stewart will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Snyder up against the cage.
Stewart keeps control of Snyder as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Snyder's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stewart misses with a kick to the body.

and Stewart counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Snyder closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Stewart is not content to let Snyder control the position.
The ground and pound from Snyder seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Snyder in side control, throwing shots but Stewart defends.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Snyder goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Stewart has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Snyder but great work by Stewart.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Wilburn Snyder will probably get the nod.

Stewart pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Snyder uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stewart.

A bit of stalling here from Stewart.
Snyder jumps guard but Stewart turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Stewart lands a knee to the body.
Stewart tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Snyder's elbow.
Snyder really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Stewart misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Snyder throws a quick counter head kick but Stewart was just out of range.
Snyder cracks Stewart with an open hand slap.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stewart throws a body punch but Snyder moves out of range.

Snyder gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Snyder passes the guard and advances to mount!

Snyder jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Stewart is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Stewart and Snyder has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Snyder tries to score with some ground and pound. Stewart controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Snyder wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Stewart, who protects the arm well.
Snyder postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Snyder has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Stewart is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corbin Stewart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Snyder makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Snyder takes the fight into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Stewart's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stewart is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Snyder is defending well for now.
Snyder blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Snyder wants a takedown but no success here.
