With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Perez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Perez has his feet on Smith's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Smith looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Perez!
Perez isn't going anywhere.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Perez keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Perez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Smith wants to take a breather but Perez is having none of it.
Perez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Smith wants to free his trapped foot but Perez is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Perez sees it coming and defends easily.
Smith is keen to just control but Perez is a slippery customer.
Perez tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Perez is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Smith is trying to control. Perez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Smith shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Perez is trying to defend but Smith finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Perez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Perez is in Smith's guard.

Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Perez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Perez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Perez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Perez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Perez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Perez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Smith is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Perez is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Perez has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eddy Perez.
Well Perez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
