PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron Burgundy (ranked 679 p4p, 112 weight class) and Connor MacLeod (ranked 1392 p4p, 209 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Connor MacLeod!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacLeod is looking to score with low kicks.
A big right from Burgundy misses.
A big left from MacLeod misses.
Ron Burgundy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A nice combination there by Burgundy.
Burgundy throws a poor cross that misses

and MacLeod decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Burgundy's guard.
MacLeod pushing down on Burgundy's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw MacLeod working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
MacLeod is keen to just control but Burgundy is a slippery customer.

MacLeod is working for an americana but Burgundy has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst MacLeod was thinking about the submission.

MacLeod wants to pass the guard but Burgundy is keeping the position.
Burgundy wants to sweep here but MacLeod controlling him for the moment.

MacLeod stays in close to Burgundy's body and controls the position.

MacLeod is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
MacLeod trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
MacLeod looking to sit in guard and control but Burgundy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

MacLeod is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

MacLeod is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
MacLeod seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Burgundy throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

MacLeod has his foot on Burgundy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Burgundy works his way back into a safe position though.
MacLeod manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Burgundy manages to get himself to full guard.

MacLeod passes Burgundy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Burgundy tries to get to full guard but MacLeod has control of the leg.

MacLeod pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burgundy is keeping the position for now.

Burgundy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but MacLeod can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Burgundy keeping moving, preventing MacLeod from controlling successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burgundy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. MacLeod doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. MacLeod manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burgundy is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
MacLeod drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Burgundy gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Burgundy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ron Burgundy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
MacLeod misses with a jab, cross combination.
Burgundy motions for MacLeod to come forward. Burgundy throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
MacLeod works over Burgundy's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Ron Burgundy has been cut.
Burgundy tries to close the distance and clinch up but MacLeod swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Burgundy throws out a loose jab but MacLeod uses good head movement to avoid it.
Burgundy moves away from the strike by MacLeod.
Burgundy gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Burgundy scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Burgundy walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A slow jab from MacLeod misses its intended target.
MacLeod avoids the head kick by Burgundy.
MacLeod drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Burgundy defends it well.
Burgundy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but MacLeod moves away.
Burgundy has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Burgundy there as he acknowledges the shot.
Burgundy swings widly with a right hand
and MacLeod makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
MacLeod lands a jab to Burgundy's midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Connor MacLeod dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ron Burgundy's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Burgundy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
MacLeod lands a slapping body shot.
Burgundy jabbing away but nothing is landing.
MacLeod has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
MacLeod lands a right hook to the body.
Connor MacLeod seems to be getting the better of the standup.
MacLeod swings for the body but Burgundy moves out of range.
MacLeod uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from Burgundy. MacLeod does a little dance to reset his feet.
MacLeod takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Donk. MacLeod catches Burgundy right on the button with a cross.


Burgundy is rocked!
Burgundy walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! MacLeod swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Connor MacLeod!
A relieved looking Connor MacLeod thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
