PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Detective Tequila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Mcpaene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Detective Tequila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Mcpaene!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mcpaene.

Mcpaene stands up and beckons Tequila to his feet.
Tequila turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Tequila pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A bone on bone clash there as Mcpaene blocks the leg kick.
Mcpaene throws a head kick that misses
and Tequila counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Mcpaene drives through and clinches with Tequila against the cage.

Tequila has Mcpaene pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Tequila pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mcpaene tumbling to the mat - Tequila dives into Mcpaene's guard.

Mcpaene kicks Tequila off and gets to his feet.

Tequila drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tequila is fighting to break Mcpaene's control of his arms but Mcpaene is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tequila wants to stand and escape but instead Mcpaene has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Mcpaene must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tequila is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Tequila is breathing heavily.
Mcpaene is pushing down on Tequila's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tequila is fighting to maintain full guard but Mcpaene has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mcpaene seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mcpaene is stalling here. Tequila is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mcpaene seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Tequila has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
You can see the frustration on Mcpaene's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Tequila prevents Mcpaene from escaping the position.

Tequila goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mcpaene has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tequila but great work by Mcpaene.

Mcpaene working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mcpaene is looking to take a break and control but Tequila is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mcpaene looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Mcpaene in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Mcpaene trying to control the action but Tequila is working from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tequila controls the position for a moment.
Mcpaene connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Tequila some visible discomfort.
Tequila manages to get back to half guard.
Tequila trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Mcpaene manages to pass to mount!
Tequila is desperately trying to improve his position but Mcpaene has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Mcpaene dominated that round.
That's time! Tequila's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Mcpaene gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tequila avoids the elbow strike from Mcpaene, against the cage.
Tequila tries to pull guard but Mcpaene holds him up against the cage and eventually Tequila drops back down to his feet.
Mcpaene prevents a takedown attempt there.

Mcpaene breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mcpaene misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tequila.

Mcpaene shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tequila's guard.

Mcpaene stands and throws Tequila's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tequila sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tequila wants to control the action here but instead Mcpaene manages to pass to full mount!

Mcpaene has control of Tequila's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tequila regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Tequila can't escape the position.
Mcpaene lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Tequila hang on?
Tequila is looking to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tequila is working hard here to advance position.
Tequila takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Mcpaene blocks Tequila's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Mcpaene avoids the attempt from Tequila to control.
Mcpaene breaks from Tequila's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Tequila is looking to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tequila tries to hold on but Mcpaene pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tequila is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mcpaene is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mcpaene prevents Tequila from getting the reversal.
Mcpaene landing strikes from the mount.
Tequila is squirming around, avoiding Mcpaene's attempts to control the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mcpaene avoids the attempt from Tequila to control.
Mcpaene controlling from the full mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mcpaene swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Tequila is now in Mcpaene's guard. A big mistake from Mcpaene there, giving up the dominant position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Mcpaene showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Tequila closes the distance and clinches.
Mcpaene prevents a takedown attempt there.
The referee calls for Mcpaene to work.

Mcpaene wants the takedown. Tequila is fighting it off but Mcpaene persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Tequila's guard against the cage.

Tequila is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Tequila has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mcpaene can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mcpaene is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Tequila looking for a guillotine here but Mcpaene defends easily.

Mcpaene passes Tequila's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Mcpaene is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are battling for position here. Tequila manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Tequila has his foot on Mcpaene's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mcpaene works his way back into a safe position though.

Tequila is not content to let Mcpaene control the position.
A lull in the action here as Mcpaene stalls from top position.
Joe Mcpaene is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mcpaene wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tequila keeps working.
Tequila manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcpaene tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tequila knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Joe Mcpaene.
I've got Mcpaene winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
