Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quetzal Montezuma (ranked 57 p4p, 4 weight class) and Matt Black (ranked 177 p4p, 17 weight class). Montezuma comes to the cage accompanied by The Mayan Predator. Black has chosen Manu Chao - Mr. Bobby as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Quetzal Montezuma!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Black!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Matt Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Black connects with a nice looking jab.
Black lands with an overhand left.
Black misses with a hook.
Montezuma throws a push kick but Black slaps the foot to one side.
Donk. Black catches Montezuma right on the button with a cross.
Black throws an off balance right hand
and Montezuma counters with a solid body kick.
Montezuma misses with a body kick.
Black connects with a looping right hand.
A solid leg kick lands there for Montezuma.
Nice defenses there by Montezuma.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Montezuma ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Black moves away.
Black misses with a body shot
and Montezuma connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Matt Black has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black fails in his attempt to clinch.
Montezuma was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Black closes the distance but Montezuma moves to the side
enabling Montezuma to counter with a crisp jab.
Black has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nice defenses there by Montezuma.
Montezuma throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Black's head.
Black swings and misses with a shot to the body
letting Montezuma counter with a right hand.
Montezuma misses with a kick to the body.
Montezuma walks into a left hand.
Black throws a shot from downtown. Montezuma moves away and avoids it.
Black jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A slow jab from Black misses its intended target.
Black misses with a lunging right hand
and Montezuma counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Black throws a shot from downtown. Montezuma moves away and avoids it.
Montezuma smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.


That has opened up Matt Black's cut even more.
Montezuma is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Black throws a right hand that Montezuma ducks under and follows up with a left that Montezuma also avoids with ease.
Black might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

and Montezuma counters with a right hand to the body.
Montezuma scores with a jab. Black acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Black misses with a hook to the body
and Montezuma finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Black looks winded!
Montezuma looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Black gets a takedown into half guard.
Black wants to take a breather but Montezuma is having none of it.
Black not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Black prevents Montezuma from improving his position.

Black is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Montezuma controlling the position for now.
Black wants to pass to mount but Montezuma is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Black is just content to waste time from the top position. Montezuma takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Montezuma managing to control the position.

Black drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Montezuma dives on top into guard.

Black being controlled here, momentarily.
Montezuma has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Black utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Quetzal Montezuma will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Matt Black's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Thud! ouch! good body kick from Montezuma - that will leave a mark!
Black thows a left - swing and a miss!
Black throws a sloppy body shot
enabling Montezuma to counter with a crisp jab.
Montezuma scores with a sloppy right hand. Black should have avoided that one.
Montezuma cracks Black with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Black tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Montezuma pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Black is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Quetzal Montezuma!
