And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rhys Jones!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


It looks like Rhys Jones has been cut.
Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mercier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jones scores with a jab.
Jones's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mercier under the eye.
Mercier walks into a left hand.
Mercier misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jones.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mercier .
Jones scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Jones lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mercier throws a looping overhand right but Jones ducks down to avoid it.
Mercier dips to his left and cracks Jones with an uppercut!

Jones works Mercier 's body with a nice hook.
Jones rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mercier counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Some wild striking there from Jones.
Alex Mercier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice defenses there by Jones.
Mercier throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jones sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mercier lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Jones should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
A telegraphed right hand from Mercier misses the target.
Jones throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mercier stuns Jones with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Mercier throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mercier misses with a few strikes there.
Mercier takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Jones moves into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mercier has a couple of punches blocked by Jones.
Jones has Mercier pushed against the cage.
Jones tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Jones misses with some punches.
Jones throws a head punch that misses.

Mercier pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It looked like Mercier wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Jones changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones scores with a jab. Mercier acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Jones on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Mercier cracks Jones with an open hand slap.
Mercier looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.
Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
Jones moves out of range as Mercier strikes.
Jones wants to counter with a clinch but Mercier pushes him away.
A decent looking cross lands there for Mercier .
Jones throws a predictable looking body shot
and Mercier counters with a straight right hand.


That has opened up Rhys Jones's cut even more.
Jones throws an off balance right hand
and Mercier cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mercier jabs at Jones's body.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Mercier .
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Jones scores with a shot to the side of Mercier 's head.
Jones dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Jones working aggressively here.
Jones tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing.
Jones slips a jab from Mercier .
Jones lands a jab to Mercier 's midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rhys Jones will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Rhys Jones's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jones slips under a jab from Mercier .
Mercier misses with a lunging right hand
and Jones counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mercier 's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Mercier duly obliges.
Jones looks to score with a jab to the body but Mercier is just out of range.
Mercier throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.
Jones scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A swing and a miss from Jones.
Mercier is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Jones.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Jones slips a straight right by Mercier .
A little jabbing left from Jones on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Mercier is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Nice jab there from Jones.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jones takes a swing at Mercier 's ribcage but misses.
Mercier misses with a few strikes there.
Jones slips a straight right by Mercier .
Mercier jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jones darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like Alex Mercier has been cut.
Jones pounces like a tiger and cracks Mercier with a vicious hook! Mercier is down but not out! Jones follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Rhys Jones!
Rhys Jones tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
