Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Alvarez is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiago Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alvarez moves away.
Alvarez tries to clinch but Drake is having none of it.
Alvarez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Drake.
Alvarez fails with the takedown.
Drake rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Alvarez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarez fails with the takedown.
Drake throws a lazy right hand but Alvarez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake swats away the attempt to clinch by Alvarez.
Alvarez wants to clinch.
Alvarez shoots in looking for a takedown. Drake tries to sprawl out of it but Alvarez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drake manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nick Drake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thiago Alvarez.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alvarez scores with a spinning back kick!

Drake moves into range and clinches up with Alvarez.
Alvarez fails to pull guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alvarez tries to pull guard but Drake holds him up against the cage and eventually Alvarez drops back down to his feet.
Drake manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Drake trying to stall but Alvarez improves his position.
Drake slowing the pace effectively.
Alvarez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Alvarez misses with a knee strike.
Alvarez wants to break the clinch but can't.

Alvarez manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Drake slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Drake has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Drake has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Drake dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Alvarez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Drake throws a leg kick but Alvarez moved away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drake throws a right and a left that Alvarez avoids nicely.
Drake looks to clinch
and Alvarez makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Alvarez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Drake swivels and escapes.
Alvarez slips a straight right by Drake.
Drake loads up on a big right hand but Alvarez slips the punch.
Nick Drake is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Drake stuffs the takedown.
Drake misses with a looping left.
A bone on bone clash there as Alvarez blocks the leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Drake throws a nice looking combination but Alvarez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Alvarez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nick Drake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thiago Alvarez.
Drake takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


It looks like Thiago Alvarez has been cut.
Drake lands with a right and another and another! Alvarez is in big trouble! Drake lands again and this time it's lights out for Alvarez! A quality knockout there for Drake.
