PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Doyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harris is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: click me. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Harris was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Doyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Harris!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good work by Doyle as he checks the leg kick.
Harris throws a head kick but Doyle moves out of range.
Harris misses with a double jab.
Harris pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Doyle throws a nice looking combination but Harris bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A head kick misses from Harris.
Harris tries to land a front kick but Doyle steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Harris throws a head kick that misses.

Doyle closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Doyle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Harris does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Well, if Doyle is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Doyle's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Doyle seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Harris for as long as he can get away with.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jack Doyle just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Doyle shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Doyle was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Harris tries to buck Doyle off but he can't manage it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Harris feints and then cracks Doyle's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Doyle down.
Doyle is breathing heavily.
Harris motions for Doyle to come forward. Harris throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Harris misses with a head kick.
Harris tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A clash of legs there as Doyle blocks the low kick.
No joy there for Harris, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Doyle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Harris's guard.
Doyle is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

An inside leg kick lands from Harris.
Harris pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Harris pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Harris tries a head kick but it misses.
Harris throws a sloppy head kick and Doyle moves out of range easily.
Doyle blocks a leg kick.
Doyle avoids a kick to the body.
Harris slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Harris. Doyle shrugs it off though.

Doyle has closed the distance and engaged Harris in a clinch.
Harris is breathing heavily.
Harris wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Doyle has him pressed against the cage.
Doyle goes for a takedown in the clinch but Harris prevents it.
Harris wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Harris is looking to break free of the clinch but Doyle has double underhooks.
Harris has had enough of the clinch but Doyle keeps him there for the moment.
Harris is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Harris breaks from the clinch.
Harris fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Doyle gets the takedown into side control.
Harris is working to avoid the ground and pound but Doyle connects with a decent elbow.

Doyle tries to advance position but instead Harris slips a leg back in to half guard.

Doyle perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Harris wants to get back to his feet.
Doyle moves into full mount! Harris won't be happy about that!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Harris misses with a few strikes there.
Harris throws and low kick but Doyle moves out of range easily.
Harris slips a jab and a cross from Doyle.
Doyle blocks a head kick by Harris.
Harris misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Harris uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Doyle.
Jack Doyle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Doyle closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Harris to the mat! Harris manages to get full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Doyle wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving.
Doyle throws a big right hand that misses.
Harris wants to stand and escape but Doyle is having none of it.
Doyle is pushing down on Harris's leg trying to pass to half guard. Harris is fighting to maintain full guard but Doyle has managed to sneak the leg through.

Doyle is trying to control. Harris wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Harris tries to kick Doyle off but Doyle keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Jack Doyle is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Harris keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Harris looks like he's trying to stand up.
Doyle works his way into side control.
Doyle advances nicely into full mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Harris is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Doyle tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Harris is in a horrible position here. Doyle smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Doyle trying to control but Harris is having none of it.
John Harris has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Doyle, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
