Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lanny Richardson (ranked 24773 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack William (ranked 5517 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

William fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Richardson sprawls well initially but William persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Richardson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
William wants to pass the guard but Richardson is keeping the position.
William wanted to stand there but Richardson had control of the position.
Richardson looking to hit a scissor sweep but William is one step ahead there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Richardson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richardson won't allow William to get back to his feet.

William pushes Richardson off and gets back to his feet.
Jack William seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Richardson enables William to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Richardson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

William throws a leg kick but Richardson sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Richardson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Richardson.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

William tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Richardson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Richardson stands and steps away. William gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

William works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

William closes the distance looking to clinch
and Richardson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
William throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Richardson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
William needs to keep his hands up - Richardson had a free shot at his head there.

William drives through with a takedown into guard.

William has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Richardson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but William is on him like a limpet, forcing Richardson back against the cage.
William blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
William is looking to break free of the clinch but Richardson has double underhooks.

Richardson chips away with some ground and pound.

Richardson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
William takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

William closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Richardson's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
William wants to control from the top but Richardson keeps moving.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lanny Richardson.
I think Richardson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
