PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Snitch (ranked 2723 p4p, 284 weight class) and Avila Alvarez (ranked 15824 p4p, 582 weight class). Snitch comes to the cage accompanied by I Wanna Rock. Alvarez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Barbarian by The Darkness. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Snitch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 27 - 2, fighting out of London, Avila Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snitch misses with a right hand
and Alvarez counters with a series of strikes. Snitch will be more careful next time no doubt.

Snitch darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Snitch prevents Alvarez from improving his position.

Alvarez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Snitch controlling the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well, if Snitch is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Alvarez is looking to improve his position.
Snitch controlling the pace.
Snitch tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alvarez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Alvarez tries to score a body lock takedown but Snitch shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Snitch for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Alvarez tightens his grip and picks Snitch up, before dumping him to the ground. Snitch manages to land in guard.
Snitch looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alvarez is one step ahead there.
Snitch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Snitch closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Alvarez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Snitch fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Snitch wants to free his trapped foot but Alvarez is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Alvarez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Snitch can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Snitch has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Alvarez has his foot on Snitch's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Snitch works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Alvarez is looking for a triangle but Snitch pushes his legs off easily.
Alvarez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Snitch is controlling him.
Snitch won't allow Alvarez to sweep him here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Snitch avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Snitch stays in close to Alvarez's body and controls the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Snitch shoots in but no luck this time.

Snitch forces Alvarez back against the cage and clinches.
Snitch is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alvarez can do to turn this around?
Alvarez wants a takedown but no success here.

Snitch throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

We've been told by Snitch's head coaches at Grind Time [ *Double Elite Coaches] that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Snitch gets in close and instigates a clinch.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Alvarez counters with a stiff right hand.
Snitch shoots in but no luck this time.

Snitch is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alvarez's half guard.

Alvarez looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Snitch has picked Alvarez up and slammed him! Alvarez can't keep hold of the triangle and Snitch manages to pass to side control!

Alvarez tries to buck Snitch off but Snitch is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Still in half guard, Snitch seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvarez is pressing down on Snitch's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Alvarez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Snitch passes into half guard.
Still in half guard, Snitch seems content to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jon Snitch.
Well Snitch has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
