Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Van Der Veer (ranked 23284 p4p, 616 weight class) and Lazar Markov (ranked 4517 p4p, 416 weight class). Van Der Veer had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 171.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Veer sprawls well. Veer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Markov gets slowly back to his feet.
Veer looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Markov is defended easily by Veer.

It looked like Veer was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Van Der Veer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lazar Markov.
Markov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Veer throws a sloppy head kick and Markov moves out of range easily.

Markov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Veer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Veer tries to get out of the position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Markov connects with a nice short shot to Veer's temple.
Markov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Veer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Markov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Markov lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Veer! More strikes land and this one is all over! Markov jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
