Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Morton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker comes to the cage accompanied by The Duck Song. Carl Morton has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carl Morton!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baker scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Baker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Baker happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Morton looks to move to half guard but instead Baker has passed into mount! Damn!
Baker landing strikes from the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Baker get's back to his feet.
Baker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Morton as he jumps to the side.
Baker throws a head kick that misses.
Baker wants to clinch.
Baker throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Morton throws a leg kick that misses.

Baker shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Baker in particular looking to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morton gets back to full guard.
Baker content to stall in guard here.
Baker tries to free his leg and advance position but Morton is retaining full guard.

Morton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Baker dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Baker slips a jab and a cross from Morton.
Baker keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Baker looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Morton is just riding it out for now. Baker eventually gives up the hold.

Morton actively working from the bottom here.
Morton is breathing heavily.

Baker escapes and gets back to his feet.
Baker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Baker bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

A lull in the action here.
Baker seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Morton for as long as he can get away with.
Morton is looking for a sweep.
Baker content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Morton is pushing Baker's head away, looking to escape. Baker manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Baker has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Baker shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Baker stands and throws Morton's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Baker is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Baker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Baker lands a few punches from side control.

Baker stands up.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Baker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Baker showed some decent athleticism there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Baker dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Baker scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Morton tries to kick Baker off but Baker keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Morton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Morton is trying to get back to full guard.

Morton looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Morton should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Morton is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Baker pulls his head out easily.
Baker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jake Baker just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Baker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Morton's guard.
Baker's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Jake Baker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Baker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Baker stays in close to Morton's body and controls the position.
Morton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Baker has passed into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Baker remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Carl Morton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jake Baker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Baker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
