The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MadBall misses with a takedown
enabling Mercier to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like Johnny MadBall has been cut.
Mercier jabs MadBall to the body, keeping him at a distance.
MadBall throws a series of punches but Mercier moves out of range.
A little jabbing left from Mercier on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Mercier has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as MadBall is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Mercier lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but MadBall circles away quickly and effectively.
Mercier looks to land a right hand but MadBall moved out of range.
MadBall displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mercier throws out the jab.
Mercier slaps away a takedown attempt from MadBall, before circling back to the center of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mercier misses with an uppercut.
Mercier circles away from the clinch attempt.
MadBall is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mercier sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

MadBall walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Mercier displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from MadBall.

and Mercier counters with a crisp one two that drops MadBall! Mercier thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves MadBall to his feet! MadBall is in big trouble!

As MadBall backs off Mercier throws a huge counter combo but MadBall manages to avoid it all.
No joy there for Mercier , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
MadBall misses with a straight left.

Mercier drops MadBall with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but MadBall looks back up at him and smiles so Mercier waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mercier avoids the head kick by MadBall.
MadBall is breathing heavily.
MadBall ducks under a wild hook from Mercier .

MadBall fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mercier throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Mercier misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
MadBall throws a head kick that misses.
Johnny MadBall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
MadBall pulls out of a head kick attempt.
MadBall gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mercier counters with a straight right hand.

Mercier lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

MadBall displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mercier throws out the jab.
Mercier connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt MadBall covering up! Mercier comes in with a big uppercut and MadBall goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
