Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bashaad Al Hammad (ranked 21516 p4p, 226 weight class) and Phil Philips (ranked 4381 p4p, 133 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bashaad Al Hammad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Phil Philips!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Philips shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Al Hammad working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Philips doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Philips manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Al Hammad throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Philips stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Philips postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Al Hammad looks a forlorn figure.

Philips is keen to just control but Al Hammad is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Al Hammad is staying active underneath Philips, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Philips misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Al Hammad will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

It looks like Phil Philips has been cut.

Al Hammad throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Al Hammad lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Philips circles away quickly and effectively.

Philips drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Al Hammad defends it well.

Philips shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Al Hammad napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Al Hammad's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Al Hammad duly obliges.
Al Hammad lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Philips moves forwards but Al Hammad connects with a nice, crisp jab.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Phil Philips is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Al Hammad escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Philips gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
