PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Scot Hines (ranked 24664 p4p, 0 weight class) and Davie Jones (ranked 5443 p4p, 350 weight class). Davie Jones will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Scot Hines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Davie Jones!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hines stuffs the takedown.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hines as he avoids it easily.
Jones looks for a takedown but Hines sprawls well.
Scot Hines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davie Jones.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.

Hines clinches up against the cage.
Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hines stalls.
Jones holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Jones stalling in the clinch but Hines improves position.

Hines tries to throw a body punch but Jones avoids it by throwing Hines back against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Jones.
Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hines walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jones darts in looking for a takedown but Hines gets double underhooks and turns Jones into the cage.

Hines gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hines wants to break free but Jones has control.
Jones stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Hines is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hines down to the mat. Hines avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hines throws a leg kick
and Jones counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

An inside leg kick from Hines misses.
Hines really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones fails with the takedown.
Hines seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Hines tries a head kick but it misses.
Jones lands with a kick to the temple. Hines shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Hines wants to slow Jones down by chopping away at his legs.
Jones misses with an uppercut.

Hines gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones jumps guard but Hines turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Hines keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.
Jones is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jones looks winded!

Hines gets underhooks to prevent Jones's takedown attempt.
Jones misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hines.
Hines effectively controlling the action here.
Hines struggles to land a body shot inside as Jones controls his hands.
Jones just leaning against Hines, taking a breather.
Jones using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Hines has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Jones tries to pull guard but Hines holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hines keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

Hines tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jones avoids it.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Jones gets control of Hines's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hines wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hines gets to his feet. Jones looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hines shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Scot Hines will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hines.
Hines circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hines went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Hines darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.

Jones breaks from the clinch.

Jones gets caught napping as Hines dives in and scores a takedown. Jones manages to retain guard.

Jones is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jones takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Hines is looking to control Jones's arms but Jones gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hines has his back to the cage.

Hines tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jones avoids it.

Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hines just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jones avoiding damage.

Hines tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jones changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Scot Hines is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hines shoots in and gets a takedown into Jones's guard.
Hines throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Hines is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hines looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jones trying to control but Hines is working from the bottom.
Hines is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Hines working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hines keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

Jones gets to his feet - Hines follows without any prompting.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hines tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hines to the ground. Hines escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Scot Hines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davie Jones.

Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Hines circles away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones fails with the takedown.
Nice shot lands for Jones.
Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hines manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Davie Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hines shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Hines, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Hines against the cage but Hines circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hines shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Davie Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Hines misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hines shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hines gets slowly back to his feet.
Jones thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hines if he has to take too many more of those.

Hines tries to work over Jones's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Jones just leaning against Hines, taking a breather.
Jones tries to pull guard but Hines won't allow it.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jones lands an elbow inside that Hines shrugs off.
Jones is trying to drag Hines to the mat but Hines just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Scot Hines has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Hines stalls.
Jones tries to pull guard but Hines forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Hines is looking to break free of the clinch but Jones has double underhooks.
Hines stalling against the cage.
Jones wants a takedown.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Hines is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.
Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hines pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Jones is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Hines is in close to Jones's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hines would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hines lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hines keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.
Hines postures up and lands a big shot to Jones's brow.
Jones throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Hines landing some decent shots from guard.
Hines wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.
Hines scoring with punches to the head and body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hines wants to stand but Jones has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Scot Hines showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hines has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
