PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dionta Young (ranked 5470 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Santos (ranked 5393 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dionta Young !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young dives in and grabs Santos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes down on Young 's head and hops out.
Santos tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Young shoots in looking for a takedown. Santos tries to sprawl out of it but Young keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Santos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Young throws a lazy body kick
and Santos counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Young tries to keep at a distance but Santos has taken the fight into the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Santos.
Young jumps guard but Santos turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dionta Young . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Young is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Santos to keep the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Santos pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Santos shoots in and gets a takedown into Young 's guard.
Young bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Santos's guard.

Santos has control of Young 's left arm, preventing Young from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Young wants to stand but Santos has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Santos had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Young defends it easily.
Young trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Santos wants to stand up but Young is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Santos has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Young has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Young is trying to pull guard but Santos turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Young is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Santos gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
A frustrated look appears on Young 's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Santos misses with a knee strike.

Young pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Santos looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Young will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Santos postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Young has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Santos has passed into side control.

Santos decides to stand back up. Santos steps back and let's Young get back to his feet.
Young is breathing heavily.

and Santos counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Santos is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Young 's half guard.
Young wants to stand back up but Santos manages to pass into side control.

Young is rocked!
Oh Young is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Santos is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Young knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Young on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Santos has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Santos has cracked Young with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Santos lands another huge swinging hook and Young tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Young , before Santos can land any more shots!
