Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spankin Monkey (ranked 6613 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathaniel Dormier (ranked 5502 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Spankin Monkey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nathaniel Dormier!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monkey throws a quick inside leg kick.
Dormier is looking to clinch.
Dormier throws a series of punches but Monkey avoids them all with ease.
Monkey looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Dormier has a takedown stuffed.
Dormier will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
No joy there for Dormier, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Monkey gets a clinch.
Monkey swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Dormier is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Spankin Monkey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathaniel Dormier.
Monkey misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Dormier.
Dormier is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Monkey pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Monkey is pressed up against the cage. Dormier has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Monkey down to the mat. Monkey avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dormier walks into a jab.
The crowd cheers as Monkey lands an impressive looking overhand right. Dormier doesn't seem phased though.
Monkey scores with a leg kick.
Dormier shoots in for a takedown but Monkey shows good takedown defense.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Monkey thuds his right hand into Dormier's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Dormier shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Monkey's guard.

Monkey keeping moving, preventing Dormier from controlling successfully.
Monkey is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dormier slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dormier with a flurry of punches that miss.
Monkey preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Dormier works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Monkey manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Dormier throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Monkey works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dormier accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dormier throws an elbow but Monkey slips to the side and avoids it well.
Dormier is looking to take a break and control but Monkey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Monkey is looking to reverse the position.

Dormier is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Monkey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Monkey sneaks back into half guard.
Dormier looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Monkey with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Dormier is keen to just control but Monkey is a slippery customer.
Dormier throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Monkey pushes Dormier off looking to stand but Dormier dives back in and keeps control.
Monkey is refusing to be controlled, as Dormier sits in half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Monkey has hold of Dormier's hands but Dormier slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Monkey moves into full guard.
Dormier looking to pass the guard.
Monkey working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Dormier.
Dormier missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Dormier controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Monkey wants to get back to his feet but Dormier is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Monkey fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Spankin Monkey will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Monkey has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Dormier must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dormier stands and steps away. Monkey gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dormier drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Dormier tries to clinch but Monkey is having none of it.

Monkey connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Monkey fails to land with a series of punches.
Monkey is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dormier can do to turn this around?
Dormier tries to close the distance and clinch but Monkey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Spankin Monkey is winning the standup battle so far.

Dormier rushes Monkey and presses him up against the cage.
Dormier has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Monkey is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Monkey lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Monkey tries a body shot but Dormier blocks it.
Monkey has Dormier pressed against the cage, preventing Dormier from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Dormier wants a takedown.
Dormier jumps guard but Monkey turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Dormier has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Monkey after a bit of a struggle.
Monkey lands a body shot in the clinch.
Dormier tries to pull guard but Monkey holds him up against the cage and eventually Dormier drops back down to his feet.
Monkey scores with a hook to the body.
Dormier is breathing heavily.
Monkey scores with a shoulder strike.

A shot in the inside from Monkey.
Dormier jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Monkey walks away with a smile on his face. Dormier gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Monkey scores with a jab to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Monkey.
Monkey scores with a hook to the body. Dormier takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Monkey tests Dormier's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Monkey getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Monkey connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
A slapping leg kick lands for Monkey.
Dormier shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Monkey as he avoids it easily.
Monkey fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Dormier to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Dormier looks to clinch but Monkey throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Dormier taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Spankin Monkey!
Spankin Monkey bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
In defeat, Nathaniel Dormier stepped up to the mic, saying 'I lost fair and square. What else can I say, I'm gunna sit out for awhile, keep working on my craft and come back better than ever.'.
