PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roman Akinfeev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akinfeev comes to the cage accompanied by 50 - Psycho. Smith is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Guerilla Radio by RATM. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roman Akinfeev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Smith!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akinfeev ducks under a wild hook from Smith.
Akinfeev connects with the punch.

It looks like Matt Smith has been cut.
Akinfeev showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Smith.
Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Akinfeev slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Smith dips to his left and cracks Akinfeev with an uppercut!
Smith misses with a wild combination.
Akinfeev tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance.
Akinfeev throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Akinfeev changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Akinfeev manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Akinfeev fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.

Akinfeev breaks the clinch.
Smith misses with a combination

so Akinfeev counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith can't keep his opponent in guard - Akinfeev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Akinfeev working Smith over with strikes.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Akinfeev connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Akinfeev wants to pass the guard but Smith is defending well.
Akinfeev stops Smith from getting back to his feet.
Akinfeev lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Akinfeev passes to full mount!
Smith really wants to buck Akinfeev off and get back to his feet.
Akinfeev lands with some strikes.
Smith taking shots to the head.
Akinfeev breaks from Smith's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Smith is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Akinfeev loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Smith scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Akinfeev land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Akinfeev stands and salutes the crowd.
