Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacques Kerr (ranked 24560 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mathias Rekve (ranked 5259 p4p, 0 weight class). Jacques Kerr has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacques Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mathias Rekve!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Ron Honeybunn and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rekve instigates a clinch.
Kerr tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rekve smiles and moves away.

Rekve gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kerr wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rekve is pressed up against the cage. Kerr has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rekve down to the mat. Rekve avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Rekve shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kerr is trying to defend but Rekve finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rekve controlling the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kerr wants to control but Rekve passes into side.

Rekve looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Rekve controlling from side mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kerr tries to bench press Rekve off him but Rekve keeps the position.
Rekve tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Kerr wants to get back to his feet but Rekve drags him back down.

Rekve decides to stand back up.
Rekve changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Rekve rushes Kerr and presses him up against the cage.
Kerr really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rekve blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Kerr misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kerr is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Rekve lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Kerr backwards.

Rekve lands a takedown into guard.

Kerr uses the cage to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rekve stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rekve wants it to stay on the feet.

Rekve shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Kerr is looking to get back to is feet but Rekve passes into side control.

Rekve throws an elbow but Kerr slips to the side and avoids it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rekve looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Kerr is avoiding damage well.

Rekve stands up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rekve shoots in and bounces Kerr off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Rekve stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rekve wants it to stay on the feet.

Rekve moves into range and clinches up with Kerr.

Kerr pulls guard.
Kerr keeping moving, preventing Rekve from controlling successfully.
Kerr doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kerr looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kerr is really struggling to control Rekve but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Rekve is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Rekve postures up.
Rekve trying to control but Kerr is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Rekve drives through with a takedown into Kerr's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Rekve gets to his feet. Kerr looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Rekve defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kerr.
Rekve changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Rekve lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kerr at a distance.

Rekve has Kerr up against the cage in a clinch.
Kerr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kerr misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kerr is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rekve is defending well for now.

Rekve turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rekve manages to end up in side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rekve advances to mount.
Mathias Rekve has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rekve content just to control the position here.
Rekve punching from mount but Kerr doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Rekve sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Kerr holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Rekve tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Rekve is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kerr has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Rekve blocks Kerr's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Rekve misses with a head shot.
Rekve controlling from mount.
Kerr is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kerr swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kerr tries to reverse the position but Rekve maintains control.
Rekve misses with a head shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mathias Rekve showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Kerr closes the distance and clinches up with Rekve, looking for a takedown. Kerr pushes Rekve against the cage but Rekve circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rekve doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Kerr shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rekve defends it nicely.

Kerr will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kerr wants to control from the top but Rekve keeps moving.
Kerr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Rekve is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Kerr tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rekve avoids it.

Rekve lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Rekve throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rekve stalling.

Rekve stands up out of the half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rekve has taken the fight to the clinch.

Rekve wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kerr has Rekve pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rekve manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kerr pushes Rekve back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Rekve pulls guard successfully.

Rekve looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rekve had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kerr defends it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kerr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rekve trying to keep a closed guard but Kerr is proving a slippery customer.

Rekve looking for a sweep. Not yet Rekve, not yet.
Kerr lands a couple of digs.
Rekve preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kerr throws a big right hand that misses.
Kerr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rekve works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kerr stands up from Rekve's guard - Kerr perhaps looking for a knockout.

Rekve shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rekve showed some decent athleticism there.
Rekve wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kerr keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kerr punching from the bottom.
Kerr missing with punches from the bottom.
Rekve has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kerr is trying to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rekve takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mathias Rekve comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rekve has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
