PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Messer (ranked 1911 p4p, 99 weight class) and Zangief Smashterov (ranked 2902 p4p, 139 weight class). Messer's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lumberjacks march-by Conway Twittie. Smashterov is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Rock you like a hurricane-by THE SCORPIONS. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smashterov explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Messer instigates a clinch.
Smashterov looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Smashterov is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Smashterov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Smashterov manages to break the clinch.
Messer scores with a hook.
Smashterov swings widly with a right hand
and Messer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

It looks like Zangief Smashterov has been cut.
Nice body kick there by Smashterov.
A slapping leg kick lands for Smashterov.
Messer throws a good cross that connects.
Smashterov moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Smashterov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Messer sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Messer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Messer has been working on his boxing with his coaches at NHB ACADEMY in the buildup to the fight.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Messer throws a lazy right hand but Smashterov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smashterov looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Smashterov jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Smashterov throws a series of punches but Messer moves out of range.
Messer slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Smashterov lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Messer takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

It looks like Jeff Messer has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smashterov throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Messer is breathing heavily.
Smashterov ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Smashterov misses the target.
Smashterov connects with the punch.
Smashterov scores with a jab.
Smashterov pounces like a tiger and cracks Messer with a vicious hook! Messer is down but not out! Smashterov follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Zangief Smashterov!
After the fight, Zangief Smashterov was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
Jeff Messer was interviewed post fight and said 'Back to the under brush for me to train...'.
