PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Guidry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Rogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guidry kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Du Hast. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Rogan!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guidry shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rogan as he avoids it easily.
Rogan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Guidry moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Guidry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rogan gets the takedown into side control.
Guidry is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Rogan thows a huge punch but Guidry dodges it nicely.
Guidry is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guidry is staying active underneath Rogan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rogan is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rogan tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Guidry.

Guidry is looking for a sweep. Rogan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rogan is keen to just control but Guidry is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rogan is looking for a kimura but Guidry is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rogan to get the leverage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Guidry shoots and misses
and Rogan makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Guidry really felt that one!
Rogan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Guidry moves away.
Guidry uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rogan.
Rogan throws a series of punches but Guidry avoids them all with ease.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rogan gets control of Guidry's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rogan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rogan is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Rogan throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Rogan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Guidry!

Rogan cracks Guidry with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Rogan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Guidry is looking to escape.

Rogan pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Rogan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Guidry is looking to escape.
Guidry wants to control but Rogan is having none of it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Rogan is looking to take a break and control but Guidry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rogan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Guidry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Guidry tries to roll over but Rogan keeps him under control.
Rogan content to control rather than advance.

Guidry is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Rogan pulls his head out easily.

Rogan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Rogan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Guidry has his foot on Rogan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rogan works his way back into a safe position though.

Joe Rogan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Rogan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Rogan shoots in and bounces Guidry off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rogan tries to stand but Guidry is controlling from the bottom.
Joe Rogan has got the better of the ground game so far.

Guidry moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Rogan has worked his arm free - good work by Rogan!
Rogan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Guidry off and has taken his back!
Rogan lands a shot to the body.
Rogan just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Rogan lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Guidry tries to roll but Rogan sticks to his back.
Rogan lands punches and elbows.
Rogan is looking to control Guidry but Guidry is wriggling around and keeping busy.
I would not like to be Guidry right now.

Guidry is really stuck here.

Rogan is hanging on to Guidry's back as he tries to escape.
Rogan lands an elbow to the side of the head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Guidry trying to control the hands but Rogan won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rogan looking for the choke but no joy.
You can see the frustration on Guidry's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Joe Rogan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rogan is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Well Rogan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
