PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Garrett Turner (ranked 23496 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Dee (ranked 4984 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Garrett Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Dee!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dee closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Turner tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Dee presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Dee scoring with strikes but Turner is staying in there.
Dee sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Dee cracks Turner with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Dee takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Dee looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The referee warns Turner that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Turner is trying to reverse the position but instead Dee has taken his back - oops!

Dee has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Turner is in bad spot here.
Turner is working hard here to advance position.
Dee has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Turner.
Turner trying to control the position but Dee manages to sink in the hooks.
I would not like to be Turner right now.
Dee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dee controlling well, preventing Turner from escaping the position.
Turner is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Dee is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Turner has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dee slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Turner really is a fat lump.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Turner is really stuck here.

Dee clinches up with Turner and pushes him back against the cage.
Turner is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dee to keep the fight standing.
Turner jumps guard but Dee stands there with Turner around his waist. Turner gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Dee drags the fight down to the ground.
Dee not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dee wants to get back to his feet but Turner passes into half guard.

Dee looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dee is looking for a sweep. Turner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dee is still trying to improve position.

Turner looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dee manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Dee pulls Turner in close to prevent any damage.
Dee looking for a sweep. Not yet Dee, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Turner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Dee pulls Turner in close to prevent any damage.
Turner has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dee utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dee is pulling down on Turner's head to control his posture.
Turner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Turner circles away.
Turner fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garrett Turner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dee stays in close to Turner's body and controls the position.
Turner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dee is one step ahead there.
Turner wants to get back to his feet but Dee is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Dee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Dee is continuing to stall.
Turner will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Dee passes Turner's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Turner gets back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Turner throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Turner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dee is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Dee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Dee has managed to clinch.
Turner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dee.
Turner jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dee walks away with a smile on his face. Turner gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Dee leaves Turner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dee throws a head kick that misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Turner enables Dee to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Turner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Turner wants to get back to his feet but Dee passes into half guard.

Turner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Turner works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Turner looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Turner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dee passes into half guard.

Dee is looking for a kimura here.
Dee lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Dee is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dee slips a nice elbow through Turner's hands, connecting with Turner's forehead.
Dee scoring with strikes to the body and head.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Let's hope that Dee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Turner kicks off Dee and gets to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dee clinches.

Dee gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Turner tries to kick Dee off in order to stand up. Dee Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Turner is working to avoid the ground and pound but Dee connects with a decent elbow.
Turner sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Dee is thwarting Turner's attempts to control the position.
Dee stalling.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Dee.

Turner manages to get to full guard.
Turner is striking but Dee is not phased and passes to half guard.
Dee controlling the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Turner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dee's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dee's back!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jay Dee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
