PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oswaldo Jarvis (ranked 24617 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Banner (ranked 5452 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruce Banner told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Oswaldo Jarvis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruce Banner!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banner shoots in looking for a takedown but Jarvis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Banner's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jarvis tries to counter by clinching up but Banner breaks away and moves out of range.

Jarvis turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Jarvis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Banner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jarvis has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Banner is trying to keep an underhook but Jarvis manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Jarvis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jarvis is looking for a triangle but Banner pushes his legs off easily.

Banner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jarvis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Banner has managed to get both his arms back between Jarvis's legs - danger averted.
Jarvis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jarvis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Banner wants to control from the top but Jarvis keeps moving.

Jarvis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Banner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jarvis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jarvis wants it to stay on the feet.

Banner gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Jarvis turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Jarvis manages to end up in side control.

Jarvis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Jarvis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Banner goes for a double leg but Jarvis avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jarvis continues to drive forward.

Banner shoots for a double leg takedown but Jarvis sprawls well. He's pushed Banner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jarvis has hold of one of Banner's legs. Banner is fighting the takedown attempt but Jarvis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Banner is looking to stand back up but Jarvis counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Banner.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Jarvis dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Banner just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromJarvis.

Banner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jarvis looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Banner has picked Jarvis up and slammed him! Jarvis can't keep hold of the triangle and Banner manages to pass to side control!
Jarvis is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Banner's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Jarvis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Banner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Banner's back!

Jarvis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
